- What is Soldermask?Soldermask is the greenish film covering most of the copper area except the pads. If you have access to any electronics devices - you will see that the copper circuit is actually protected by a greenish lacquer like layer - this is the soldermask.
- Do I really need soldermask?It depends - for hobbyist through hole PCBs, solder mask is more for an aesthetic reason than functionality. But for SMT boards, we highly recommend soldermask to facilitate neat soldering. Solder mask was created primarily to facilitate wave soldering used in mass assembly. It also prevents solder from bridging between conductors, thereby preventing short circuits.
- What soldermask do you use for production?We use green Liquid Photo Imageable (LPI) Soldermask for our PCB production.
- Other manufacturers charge higher price for PCBs with soldermask, does soldermask increase your prices?No, the soldermask is standard option for our prototype and production PCBs.
- What different soldermask colors are available for my PCBs?Apart from Green, we can also supply PCBs with White, Black, Blue & Red solder mask.
PCB Design Tips
When designing a PCB, try to limit
the amount of draws you use.
Draws use a lot of memory and slows the programming time. Ex.: Use a flash for pads instead of draws. If for some reason we need to increase or decrease that pad size, it can easily be done by changing the D-code but if they are done with draws it could be a nightmare.
